Itinerary

We arrive at Muscat international airport. DanaTrips host is available to assist you at Muscat airport and transfer you to the hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to make you own discoveries, or try one of the recommended restaurants for a local dinner. Welcome to Muscat.

After breakfast at the hotel, visit the beautiful Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, with a 50m dome and prodigious Persian carpet, can accommodate 20,000 people. Then we continue to Sultan Armed Forces Museum, is located at Fort Al Falaj House in Ruwi region in the Gove rnorate of Muscat. You then proceed to the old part of Muscat city where you’ll see the two-16th century Portuguese forts, Jalali and Mirani, guarding the entrance to the city. Drive down to the busy fishing harbour at Muttrah, with its quaint wooden dhows and fishing boats, stop at the bazaar (souq) where you can mingle with the locals and browse the silver and spice shops.

Enjoy a free afternoon in Muscat. If you’d like to, you can be dropped at the old town of Muscat to visit National Museum or Royal Opera House on your own or book a sunset cruise for the evening.

We start the tour by driving towards Nizwa. It is one of the oldest cities in Oman and once a capital of Oman in the 6th-7th century AD. Center of trade, religion, education and arts. Take an electric car around the Al Aqr Village and visit the local Souq in Nizwa which is renowned for its hand-carved “Khanjars” (daggers), delicious dates, pottery and ornamental silver jewelry. You are sure to find much to tempt you as you explore the meandering paths and myriad stalls of the souk. We continue to discover the oases and the small houses built of clay in Al Hamra. A bit of a funny look on these, but very cosy. This is Oman’s oldest house and building that can be dated back over 400 years. The houses often have two floors where the roof is made of beams from the palm trees and covered with clay and straw. And finally, to the village of Misfah which is up in the mountains at the foot of the Al Hajar mountain range. From here, we set off on a small village walk.
